Feedback from Recent Engagements

"The materiality assessment produced findings that actually matched what we were hearing from our investors. The team didn't just work through a template — they asked questions that helped us refine our thinking. The integration plan we received is something our sustainability team can work from without additional interpretation."

"We'd been collecting ESG-type data in an ad hoc way for years but had no sense of whether it was the right data or whether we were measuring against the right frameworks. The readiness scorecard clarified that in a way we could actually explain to our board. The data collection plan is now embedded in our annual reporting cycle."

"The green operations review identified three things we could act on immediately and two areas worth investing in over the next 12 months. The prioritisation was useful because it came with honest estimates of effort — so we could make a reasonable judgment about where to start. We've already implemented the two highest-priority changes."

"What made the difference was having a single consultant who knew our situation from start to finish. Every time we had a question, we got a direct answer — not a holding message while someone checked with the project team. The engagement ran on schedule and the deliverable was exactly what was described in the scope."

"Our main concern going in was that we'd end up with a document that looked good but wasn't usable. That wasn't our experience. The scorecard gave us a clear picture of where we were — and the data collection plan has a practical structure we can actually follow. The walkthrough session was valuable too; it answered several questions that came up when our team reviewed the document."

"The review identified that our energy monitoring was incomplete — something we hadn't fully appreciated. With a clearer picture of where consumption was actually happening, we've been able to make targeted adjustments. The process was straightforward and didn't put excessive demands on our internal team."

Case Studies

Three Organisations, Three Starting Points

A closer look at how different organisations approached their sustainability challenges and what the engagements produced.

Case Study 01 · Sustainability Integration

A Mid-Sized Property Developer Navigating Investor Expectations

5 weeks

The Challenge

A Selangor-based developer was receiving sustainability questionnaires from two institutional investors. The responses being given were inconsistent and unsupported by any formal internal position. There was no materiality assessment, no documented sustainability commitments, and no designated internal owner for the subject.

The Work

Novalith conducted a materiality assessment across five stakeholder groups including the two investors, ran three internal interviews with leadership and operations, and facilitated a half-day prioritisation session. The output was a sustainability integration plan with six phased initiatives across a 24-month horizon.

The Outcome

The company now has a documented sustainability position it can share with investors. Three of the six initiatives have been assigned internal owners and incorporated into the FY2026 planning cycle. Investor questionnaire responses are now consistent and supported by the integration plan.

"We went from ad-hoc responses to a structured position in five weeks. The plan gave our leadership team a common reference point, which turned out to be almost as valuable as the document itself."

Case Study 02 · ESG Reporting Readiness

A Retail Group Preparing for Bursa Malaysia Disclosure

4 weeks

The Challenge

A listed retail company had received guidance that enhanced ESG disclosure would be expected in the coming reporting year. Internal teams had been collecting some environmental and HR data, but it wasn't connected to any framework, and significant gaps existed in governance-related reporting areas.

The Work

The engagement reviewed existing data against the Bursa Malaysia Sustainability Reporting Guide indicators and identified gaps by category. Reporting boundaries were established, and the team produced a scorecard against 38 relevant indicators. A data collection plan was built around the company's existing reporting calendar.

The Outcome

The company had a clear view of its readiness state across all reporting categories, with 14 indicators assessed as ready, 18 requiring additional data collection, and 6 needing governance changes before reporting was possible. The data collection plan was adopted by the finance and sustainability functions immediately after the walkthrough.

Case Study 03 · Green Operations Review

A Food Manufacturing Company Responding to Customer Requests

3 weeks

The Challenge

A food manufacturer had received environmental performance questionnaires from two of its major retail customers — both of whom were themselves under ESG disclosure obligations. The company had no structured view of its environmental footprint and limited data on energy and water use at the facility level.

The Work

Novalith reviewed facility-level utility data, waste records, and supplier contracts. Site visits were conducted at the main production facility. The review identified nine areas for potential improvement, ranked by a combination of environmental impact and implementation feasibility.

The Outcome

The company implemented the top three recommendations within 60 days of the engagement closing, achieving an estimated 11% reduction in energy consumption at the main facility. The review report was shared with both retail customers in response to their questionnaires, and both confirmed it addressed their requirements.
